Meet Our Guest of Honor – Frank Durkan,
Esq.

We are delighted to announce that our special guest this year at the
second annual charity banquet and ball is Frank Durkan, originally from
Bohola, County Mayo. Frank immigrated to the United States, making New
York his home, graduating in 1953 with a Bachelor of Law Degree from New
York Law School. Since then he has worked as a trial lawyer for the
firm of O’Dwyer & Bernstien. He and his wife Monica (nee Goggin) from
Dublin, continue to reside in New York and are the parents of two
daughters, Mary Louise and Aisling. During his career, Durkan proved to
be a considerable attorney, representing injured plaintiffs in
negligence and malpractice cases. He has authored several articles on
this area of law.
Durkan has a special interest in the
affairs of Northern Ireland, and involves himself in organizations
aiming for peace in the six counties. Durkan provided pro bono services
in defense of Irish Americans finding themselves in conflict with the
law by reason of problems in Northern Ireland. Durkan is an active
member of the Mayo Society of New York. He is a trustee of the Irish
Institute of New York and a trustee of the Mayo Foundation for the
Handicapped. His many achievements include representing the Mayo
Football Club of New York as a delegate to the Gaelic Athletic
Association. Durkan is the current Chairman of the A.N.I.A. (Americans
for a New Irish Agenda.)
We look forward to welcoming Frank to our city, a home to so many
sons and daughters of County Mayo.
